Validated 3D Tumor Spheroid Viability Models

Oncology Drug Discovery in More Physiologically Relevant 3D Tumor Spheroid Viability Models

Tumors are three-dimensional (3D) structures, with gradients of oxygenation, nutrition, and pH. To better predict test agent and drug candidate behavior in this more physiologically complex state as compared with 2D culture, Eurofins Discovery offers nearly 120 human cancer cell lines grown as 3D tumor spheroids that represent key morphological and biological characteristics of in vivo human tumors. With our OncoPanel® 3D spheroid viability models, you can:

  • Compare test agent activities in qualified 2D vs. 3D cultures
  • Prioritize test agents and candidates based on enhanced tumor-active properties within a 3D structure to help increase the potential to see in vivo model efficacy
  • Determine the impact of spheroid biology (e.g. pH and hypoxia) on test agent efficacy
  • Assess for synergistic, antagonistic, and additive responses with drug combination studies

OncoPanel 3D tumor spheroid viability assays use CellTiter-Glo® to measure spheroid viability following 3-day test agent treatment. Customized options are available to suite specific project needs – speak with one of our experts to explore options today!

Cultures are optimized in model development to ensure proper spheroid formation with an hypoxic core at the time of treatment. All 3D spheroid viability models are qualified for use with a 3-day incubation and imaged prior to test agent addition as part of our routine QC process.
