Biological Information
Background Information:
A free radical is an atom or molecule that has one or more unpaired electrons. The evidence is that reactive species of oxygen (O2-, H2O2, OH- and NO2+) play an important role in pulmonary oxygen toxicity, inflammation, neurodegenerative disorders, ischemia/reperfusion injury and cancer, etc. Antioxidants can react with the nitrogen centered radical DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) and convert it to the non-radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazine.
