Biological Information

Background Information:

Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) receptors belong to the superfamily of G protein-coupled seven transmembrane proteins. G-protein-coupled receptors constitute one of the major signal transduction systems in eukaryotic cells. Coding sequences for these receptors, in those regions believed to contribute to the agonist-antagonist binding site, are strongly conserved across mammalian species. TRH receptors are widely and regionally distributed throughout the neuraxis.

Clinical Relevance

Therapeutic Area:

Metabolic Diseases

Adverse / Beneficial Action:

TRH receptor agonism may stimulate synthesis and release of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), augment autonomic tone, cause hyperprolactinenia and galactorrhea; restoration of conciousness and mobility in anesthetized animals is well documented.
